Audiomania expert verdict

A 2-way D’Appolito floorstander with two 165 mm woofers, a 38 mm fabric ring tweeter and two rear ports: 36 Hz, 4 Ω, 88 dB, bi-wiring per the data sheet. A technical reference without listening evidence: it needs a 4 Ω-capable amplifier and 30–50 cm from the wall; check the sound character at an audition. AI draft, under review

In brief

Best if you are looking for:

  • deep bass from a slim cabinet: 36 Hz, two 165 mm woofers, two reflex ports — 8/10 by rule AI draft, under review
  • a precise stereo image at seated ear height — D’Appolito configuration (tweeter between the woofers) AI draft, under review
  • bi-wiring and bi-amping: two pairs of screw terminals AI draft, under review
  • home cinema with the QX MkII range (centre, surrounds, sub of the same series) — “a home-cinema range” per the news AI draft, under review
  • 18–32 m² rooms with a 45–150 W amplifier into 4 Ω AI draft, under review

Keep in mind:

  • 4 Ω and 88 dB (≈ 85 dB/W): the amplifier must be rated for 4 Ω; AV receivers and low-power tube amps are not the best choice AI draft, under review
  • two rear ports — no closer than 30 cm to the wall AI draft, under review
  • the sound character is not described in the data (no reviews, no specialist replies) — an audition is a must AI draft, under review
  • the card's “95 dB (peak)” looks too low for a 4 Ω floorstander with two 165 mm drivers — we are checking with the supplier; 12-month warranty AI draft, under review

Sound character

Technical reference (no listening evidence in the data): a 2-way D’Appolito — two 165 mm long-fibre acrylic-composite woofers either side of a 38 mm fabric ring tweeter; 2200 Hz crossover; two rear ports; 36 Hz – 24 kHz; 88 dB, 4 Ω. AI draft, under review[6]

What the description promises (not verified by listening): a ring tweeter “with minimal phase distortion” over an extended range, composite cones “against vibration and resonance”, a comb surround for “even wave propagation”. AI draft, under review[3]

09

Use scenarios

Suits:

  • home stereo and cinema front in 18–32 m² with a 4 Ω-capable amplifier AI draft, under review
  • a home-cinema set on the QX MkII range AI draft, under review
  • deep bass without a subwoofer for music (36 Hz) AI draft, under review

Less suited to:

  • AV receivers and tube amplifiers — 4 Ω and 85 dB/W AI draft, under review
  • placement flush to the wall — two rear ports AI draft, under review
  • buying blind — the sound character is not described in the data AI draft, under review

Technologies and construction

  • D’Appolito (MTM) configuration

What it is: The tweeter sits between two 165 mm woofers at seated ear height.

Practical benefit: “More coherent sound across the whole range… the stereo image is as expressive and precise as possible” (description).

  • 38 mm fabric ring tweeter

What it is: A 38 mm soft-fabric ring diaphragm designed to replace a conventional dome.

Practical benefit: “Works over an extended range with minimal phase distortion” (description) — treble to 24 kHz.

  • 2 × 165 mm woofers with acrylic composite cones and a comb surround

What it is: Cones of long-fibre acrylic-based composite; a comb-profile surround designed by computer modelling.

Practical benefit: Light, stiff cones “resist vibration and resonance well”; the surround gives “more even wave propagation” (description).

  • Two rear reflex ports

What it is: Bass-reflex loading with two ports on the rear panel; 36 Hz – 24 kHz.

Practical benefit: Deep bass (8/10 by rule) from a slim cabinet; the price is 30–50 cm to the wall.

  • Slim cabinet with an aluminium top and rounded edges

What it is: An aluminium top plate, rounded side edges, outrigger feet beyond the base (+20 mm).

Practical benefit: “Extra cabinet damping”; the rounding “eliminates diffraction” (description); the feet add stability.

  • Two pairs of screw terminals (bi-wiring)

What it is: Inputs — two pairs of screw terminals.

Practical benefit: Bi-wiring / bi-amping possible; with a single run keep the stock jumpers.

Placement sensitivity
not enough data to calculate

From the specialists' experience:

  • Two rear ports: no closer than 30 cm to the wall (20 cm minimum by rule); corners may give excess bass.[2]
  • The tweeter between the woofers is designed for seated ear height — on a low sofa or standing, the tonal balance shifts more than with conventional towers.[1]

FAQ

›When will it be back in stock?
Availability changes — see the live status on the page (as of 2026-11-05: in stock in Moscow). In April 2025 the specialist answered: “no delivery dates yet; I will leave a request and let you know”.
›The speakers are 4 Ω — which amplifier is needed, and will an AV receiver do?
A 4 Ω-rated amplifier is needed (load 4/10 — medium by rule; the minimum impedance is unpublished). 88 dB at 4 Ω ≈ 85 dB/W: 100 dB peaks at 3 m in 20 m² need ≈ 72 W (143 W with headroom) into 4 Ω. An AV receiver is not recommended (most are rated 6–8 Ω).
›Will a tube amplifier work?
Rather not: 85 dB/W (88 dB at 4 Ω) and 4 Ω — push-pull tubes need ≥ 86–88 dB/W and a known minimum impedance, single-ended ≥ 92 dB/W. A class AB/D transistor amplifier rated for 4 Ω is optimal.
›Is bi-wiring / bi-amping available?
Yes: two pairs of screw terminals. The benefit of bi-amping has not been assessed by the experts for this model; with single wiring keep the stock jumpers in place.
›How close to the wall can it go? How tall is it on its feet?
Two rear ports: by rule 30–50 cm to the wall, 20 cm minimum; not flush against the wall. Height 980 mm plus 20 mm feet = 1000 mm; the feet extend beyond the cabinet for stability.
›Do I need a subwoofer?
For music — no: 36 Hz (tolerance unstated, f3 ≈ 40 Hz by rule) → bass depth 8/10. For cinema — optional; suggested crossover ≈ 60 Hz by rule.
›What room size does it suit?
By rule 18–32 m² is optimal, 14–42 m² acceptable (two 165 mm woofers, floorstanding); description: “enough output for most rooms”. No specialist room verdicts exist for this model.
›What does “SPL 95 dB (peak)” mean — is it a quiet speaker?
Taken literally the value gives “plays loud” = 2/10, but for a 4 Ω floorstander with two 165 mm woofers and 150 W allowed this looks like a card error — we are checking with the supplier and draw no loudness conclusion yet. AI draft, under review
›Which cable is needed?
4 Ω calls for a heavier gauge: by rule at least 2.5 mm², 4 mm² beyond 3–5 m. Screw terminals — bananas, spades or bare wire; bi-wiring needs two pairs.
›Does it need an amplifier?
Yes: these are passive speakers and need a stereo amplifier or receiver. See “Amplifier requirements” and “Recommended now”.

Audiomania expert opinion

The QX-4 MKII sits mid-range in Mission's QX MkII home-cinema line, above the entry LX MkII: a slim cabinet with an aluminium top, rounded edges, outrigger feet. Structurally it is a classic MTM floorstander with deep bass (36 Hz) and a 4 Ω load. AI draft, under review[5]

Audiomania's data holds no listening notes on this model, so the card is honestly limited to physics: pair it with a 4 Ω-rated amplifier and book an audition. AI draft, under review[2]
